Guide

About Metadata Viewer

Curious who made a PDF, when it was last modified, or which software produced it? The viewer shows every standard property, custom fields and the raw XMP packet, plus the size and rotation of every page in millimetres and points.

It's a quick way to audit documents before publishing them — and if you find something you'd rather not share, remove it with one click.

Tips for best results

  • The “Producer” field often reveals the exact software and version used.
  • Mixed page sizes are grouped with a count so you can spot odd pages.
  • Fix wrong titles shown in browser tabs with Edit Metadata.

How your file stays on your device

Metadata Viewer runs entirely inside your web browser. When you choose a file, your browser reads it into memory on your own device, a background Web Worker does the processing, and the result is handed straight back to you as a download. There is no upload step, no server that receives your document and no copy kept anywhere — close the tab and it is gone. That makes it safe for contracts, IDs, medical letters and anything else you would rather not send to a stranger's server. How in-browser processing works

FAQ

Metadata Viewer: frequently asked questions

What is XMP metadata?

XMP is an XML block embedded in many PDFs. It can contain editing history, software details and more.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Reading metadata happens entirely inside your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your files never leave your device, and nothing is stored after you close the tab.
