Guide

About Edit Metadata

PDF readers, browser tabs and search engines often display the document's metadata title rather than its file name — and exported files frequently carry titles like “Microsoft Word - Document1”. Setting proper metadata fixes that.

Edit the title, author, subject, keywords and creator. Leave a field empty to remove it. Out-of-date XMP metadata is dropped so readers show your new values consistently.

Tips for best results

  • Use a descriptive title with your main keyword for PDFs you publish online.
  • Separate keywords with commas.
  • To remove everything instead, use Remove Metadata.

How your file stays on your device

Edit Metadata runs entirely inside your web browser. When you choose a file, your browser reads it into memory on your own device, a background Web Worker does the processing, and the result is handed straight back to you as a download. There is no upload step, no server that receives your document and no copy kept anywhere — close the tab and it is gone. That makes it safe for contracts, IDs, medical letters and anything else you would rather not send to a stranger's server. How in-browser processing works

FAQ

Edit Metadata: frequently asked questions

Why does my PDF show the wrong title?

Many readers show the metadata title instead of the file name. Set the correct title here.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Editing metadata happens entirely inside your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your files never leave your device, and nothing is stored after you close the tab.
